Tips on Replacing the Carpet in Your Pontoon Boat
Are you in replacing the carpet on your used pontoon boat? If so, here are some helpful tips for doing the work themselves. A customer asked me the other day, he thought, instead of his pontoon carpet with indoor / outdoor carpet tiles, and whether they could be used on ships?
I told him I would not recommend that the carpet tiles, as they will come at the corners after the time of the sun and water. I always recommendwith a piece of indoor - outdoor carpet or marine grade carpeting.
Trim off any any pontoon boat steering console, including furniture and floor, until you are up to the plywood. Now you can remove the carpet, perhaps glued to the plywood and any of the old glue that was left behind. You may have to grind very little to keep you clean on a fresh surface. Now is a good time to make one from plywood, which is inspected or repairedreplaced.
Next step is the creation of new carpet on the pontoon and give some time to ensure smooth carpet. Once the new carpet is ready to install, half of the carpet and glue the new carpet and the bottom of the boat again. I recommend marine grade contact adhesive spray. It allows you a few minutes would maneuver on the carpet place in the development of a lump in the carpet. I prefer to glue at a higher temperaturethan 50 degrees and make sure that you have a happy new hook knife or carpet knife.
Now you have to go while in the same steps with the remaining portion of the pontoon boat floor and carpet. You can to another person help you install it as a second set of hands is not a bad thing. Now is a good time to go to lunch, like you, so that should solve the carpet a bit before the next step.
Next step is to cut off overhanging portions of the carpetand install the floor trim. Now you can reinstall your pontoon boat furniture and steering console on. Install pontoon boat carpet is not really big project to do yourself, especially if you gain some help.
